Bruce and I are spending two months, at least, in Tucson AZ. We found an RV Resort with all sorts of activities. Bruce is in the lapidary shop and I've been quilting. I joined the Zumba group and we've been hiking in beautiful parks with the hiking group.
There are lots of points of interest in and around Tucson. On Wednesday we visited the "boneyard" and the Pima Air and Space Museum. We spent just about all day exploring. Yesterday, we hiked up to Hutch's Pool in Sabino Canyon. Beautiful!!!Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-66553344304126488592013-08-07T16:45:00.000-07:002013-08-07T17:05:23.667-07:00More photos of Newfoundland

We spent the weekend of June 14th, celebrating my sister's 50th birthday, in Keene NY It was a mini family reunion. On June 18th we meandered our way to Sydney, Nova Scotia, to catch the ferry to Newfoundland. It is a six hour crossing to Port aux Basques, NL. Once on land we drove to our first campground. JT Cheesemen Provincial Park. Bruce hooked us up and I started dinner. Out of the blue, I got horrendous gas pains that got progressively worse. I started throwing up until nothing was left to throw up but my body insisted on trying. I thought it could be food poisoning from the roast beef sandwich we had shared on the ferry, but Bruce had zero symptoms. I usually don't go to the doctor or hospital until on my death bed, so I guess I felt close enough to go. Bruce brought me to the hospital in Port aux Basques. Who should greet me but the one and only doctor from Brooklyn. He called me the lady from NY. Here I was put on an iv drip that took them three pokes to get into a dehydrated vein. They gave me morphine and something to stop the nausea. On a scale from one to ten, I thought the pain was a ten. A lab technician was called in just as she was about to go to bed, to get blood work from me and someone else. I spent the night here and the next day had a chest x- ray. That was fine and was told I need to have a CAT scan, which they don't have. I would have to take a two hour ambulance ride to the town of Corner Brook. We were warned of the expense and I asked the doctor if we could drive up. " I wouldn't suggest that". I imagined thousands of dollars and when the cost was under that, it was a relief. The administration was afraid to tell us! LOL!! The NY doctor also wanted me to see a surgeon. Bruce wasn't comfortable with this hospital because there was only one doctor, and said we weren't going back. At two o'clock the best ambulance crew in Newfoundland ( and they even said so) took me for the two hour ride over bumpy Newfoundland roads. They apologized and said it doesn't get better. It did hurt now and again, but that morphine is a wonder. On the way up Mark gave me a water tower size container of liquid to drink for the dye used with a CAT scan. I hoped I could hold it down. I managed to drink what was needed. At one point the sirens went off and we went sailing through road construction. I thought Keith would be so jealous, I got a ride in an ambulance. With the SIRENS blaring!!! So Mark took a picture of me and emailed it to me. It's not pretty but fun to have. Darn, Keith was in an ambulance a few years back after getting hit by a car. When I arrived at Western Memorial in Corner Brook I was under the CAT scan ten minutes after arriving. The surgeon then examined me. She gave me a rectal exam and that pain is a ten and the cramps have moved down to a seven. She said I have a UTI. I had no idea. They changed the iv because the vein blew out. Which is common. More blood work and waiting for CAT scan results. They decided to control my nausea, they would put a tube up my nose down my throat into my stomach to suck out the stuff. Instant relief. But the pain of shoving a tube up the nostril is now my new number ten and the rectal exam is an eight. The results of the CAT scan showed I had a partially blocked lower intestine. She felt that the tubular litigation I had thirty years ago stuck to the intestine and caused a kink.(adhesion) They also saw fibroids, which I've known I've had for years. Because of this I was to see a gynecologist. The Gynecologist came and asked questions and found nothing unusual in my history and didn't think the two were related. The intestine just moved next to scar tissue from the previous procedure. She still wanted to check the endometriosis. This involved inserting an instrument with a razor on it and running it along my uterus. This pain was rated ten because it was the longest two minutes of pain I ever experienced and I cried. The nose tube is now a nine. The one procedure they wanted to do on Tuesday was to tap my stomach to see what the fluid was. Since everything is improving, my iv is out, my nose tube is out, and I am now on solid liquid diet ( i wasn't allowed to eat for days) I may not have to. The surgeon gave me exercises to make the kink go back to normal. She said the kink is like a garden hose.
The nurses here are so sweet and the surgeon is down to earth and seems to know her stuff. I just hope never to have a relapse. This is the first emergency visit I've ever had to a hospital. Hopefully, I will be released on Tuesday if not sooner. My roommate is Monna and she is a moaner for sure. After being with her for a week she is finally speaking English to us and the staff. I feel well enough now that I put her socks on and got her water. It wasn't cold enough so I got the nurse to do it. LOL!! She pouts a lot.
All is well now and after touring NL for six weeks we are getting ready to take the ferry back to Nova Scotia, so we can explore there. We planned on taking the ferry back from St. John's on the east coast, which is a 14 hr ferry. During this past week a ferry on the west coast became grounded. They took the ferry from the east coast to the west coast to help ferry to Nova Scotia. So now we have to drive back west to catch the ferry.

Our last evening in Ithaca was a pleasant one and a great way to end our summer at home. After a day of packing up a snow mobile trailer and the back of the car, we had dinner with our friends at their Cayuga Lake house. We decided to leave the coach in Ithaca this season because next summer we want to go to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland CA. Why spend a bazillion dollars on fuel to go west and then return east, when we have our Candominium in Tucson.

August 31, 2012

This morning we jammed a few last minute things in our car and headed to Greensburg PA to visit Bruce's mom and sister. We had a nice time catching up and it was good to see our brother in law who had been quite ill, on the mend and doing well. I also collected a few more things that might
come in handy at our Candominium in Tucson.

Sept.1, 2012

Today we had the luck of the Irish and we aren't even Irish!! It did cost us four hundred dollars though. After leaving Greensburg, we weren't gone thirty minutes and one of the brand new tires on the trailer blew out. Bruce changed to a spare we had and luckily there was a tire store about six miles away and we were able to get a new tire. So on the road again we went. It was getting to be dinner time so we decided we would stop at the next tourist/ rest area to see if we could find a place to stay and have dinner. The first one came too soon so we continued on to the next one, fiftyfour miles away, in Bristol TN. It was a good thing we stopped. When we got out we could smell
something hot. Bruce checked under the trailer and a spring on the trailer broke and the tire was
wearing a hole in the bed of the trailer and the trailer bed was wearing the tire away. We decided if
we wanted to sleep at night and get to Georgia we would need to get a Uhaul trailer. Besides that the trailer was not going to make it in one piece anyway. We found a Uhaul store four miles away across the state line in Bristol VA. The owner was just closing for the day but came and led us to his store the long way so that the tire wouldn't blow again on the major highway. Would you believe there was a Uhaul trailer with a picture of San Xavier de Bac Mission which is around the corner from our resort in Tucson!! It was just waiting for us to bring it home. The owner of the family owned Uhaul company was so very helpful. He gave us water and told the story of his father and the shop. Not to mention helping Bruce and me shove our mattress in the back of the trailer. Two hours later he got to go home and we found a hotel and had some dinner.

Today was uneventful. We are in Young Harris, Georgia at William Holland School of Lapidary Arts. We'll be here for a week. Bruce is taking a class on advanced glass fusion and I am taking a class in bead crochet and Kumi himo. It's fun here. Camp for retired people, but every now and then a young adult takes a class. Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-61120656418595923922011-12-04T21:24:00.000-08:002011-12-04T21:30:29.329-08:00The Green FlashThe reason for green flash optical phenomena lies in refraction of light (as in a prism) in the atmosphere: light moves more slowly in the lower, denser air than in the thinner air above, so sunlight rays follow paths that curve slightly, in the same direction as the curvature of the Earth. Higher frequency light (green/blue) curves more than lower frequency light (red/orange), so green/blue rays from the upper rim of the setting sun remain visible after the red rays are obstructed by the curvature of the earth.
Green flashes are enhanced by mirage, which increase the density gradient in the atmosphere and therefore, increase refraction. A green flash is more likely to be seen in clear air, when more of the light from the setting sun reaches the observer without being scattered. One might expect to see a blue flash, but the blue is preferentially scattered out of the line of sight, and remaining light ends up looking green.
With slight magnification a green rim on the top of the solar disk may be seen on most clear-day sunsets, although the flash or ray effects require a stronger layering of the atmosphere and a mirage, which serves to magnify the green for a fraction of a second to a couple of seconds.

Bruce and I are at Venice Beach California. We are taking a cruise through the Panama Canal that leaves south of here. Tonight we watched the sun set at the beach on the Pacific Ocean and saw the green flash. We've seen the flash several times when we lived aboard Arcadia. When a sailor sees the green flash it means safe travels for him. It is amazing and exciting to see this phenomena. We should have safe travels on our cruise.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-78472883087414709682011-11-05T09:59:00.000-07:002011-11-05T10:24:18.877-07:00Winter weather<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAGYQSTNWHFACJ-uVtELXUf8cSlMVYA1M7MjuJ48B-7KAxSE9-OiXOnHVdQhNpsmeTOY1nZXtGZyKWZg7h5be51IEKspzkyH_MBzMf0PhuxjX0cLw5aPur1lL0vYnUJGSm_spJTaWkKA/s320/IMG_3793.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5671561277317910386" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiXRj88Z63sKFsT1rkv9w8lKFYpnm_Y8VBW7QRhdn6CdZg8gKrF9Dbz2LAdE0tgTiM37IUqsTrrZddKVPQzxjgU8kg0XXdYrE-664OfJovSelNHTUq3-uVCvue7Hy-ndno4avWiHnlag/s320/IMG_3792.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5671560767133174562" />
Bruce and I had a bit of an adventure yesterday. On our way over to Sedona via highway 40. (Mother Road RT 66) we experienced some fierce wind. It was gusting to 50 miles per hour. We heard this shake, rattle and roll so pulled over to discover our awning was about to unwind. Bruce secured that and we got back underway. We thought all was well but driving in that wind was a bit unnerving so we decided to stop in Flagstaff for the night or so. We toured around the town which reminded us of Ithaca NY without the hills. That evening as we were relaxing and the storm that was predicted was beginning, thunder and rain, Bruce noticed rain dripping in from the air conditioner duct on the ceiling. We got towels and pots to collect the rain. Bruce decided to go on the roof and investigate. Seems one of those shakes, rattles or rolls we had heard was the cover to the air conditioner blowing away on RT 66. Should we just buy the cover or replace the entire air conditioner that is 13 yrs old?
We woke up to four inches of snow!!Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-6294233340712796242011-10-25T14:01:00.001-07:002011-10-28T07:38:35.258-07:00Catching up, Again!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit8UV8f9htBq9sTTNe_wUNA_4wbQ_r7Z-eYrrR1NLRL6TmQ6utVlKs-9glmf5kmwwx__ky6QBiLOcSxgzroIfFud7MSbgAdnFUPAqltoQT-Ves62lbS2KtXixZMo484KlFLfZAPIcEpQ/s320/IMG_3445.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5667566719824898370" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfSuUj7iPYmGWLNXayV7xPA6d6Ksup70FwvnS7BvShu4gbZxMkY4veHjIzUiJF2-5yykzE7II6T4qFJqlEA1K5Wih0Cbht9XBk7a-uDmARovHYCmmwUaxA5qXnOe7eQDDMc_Jgz6sQGw/s320/IMG_3316.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5667565635647609762" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVpjf8yzWAUViwfouuLY3tTu6bEnTRnggaIK61-8JD5sdm2D2cBiMP3QhGJdoCLM0dkMQL97aiIm8-_OAgLnbij4Kiz6PbRlt58lSPGJ-EW1ZxCY-mPBo0B0DPBpYmesnfH2z4OMMUVg/s320/IMG_3321.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5667565090905859682" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOf0tstTMCgP63JQxqA0zuvKSlVVYrJToWiyjRD2O8_t9D2tM-1HGWZAfPWKVAqbdD1OVzk57Wj3E4xMA-G8Buv87XgNiOW00ilyVQjfmMwNRXiFAvEZj2SSEmwwd8mkp63bMi18Uw2A/s320/IMG_3329.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5667564239336416050" />
This is the third time I have tired to catch up with this blog!! Either the connection was bad or I did something wrong but it just wasn't working.

As usual the summer flew by. We had two baby showers and one wedding shower plus the wedding in Sept. Of course we were gone for the last five weeks of it. In August we went to Europe. First few weeks we were in Italy with my family. We did all the must see spots. Roma, Pisa, Venice, Milan and I really enjoyed Lake Como.
We also visited the smaller towns in Italy where the real people live, not the tourist traps. One highlight of the trip was a dinner we had at Banfi Winery. The food was awesome!! This restaurant inspired Cornell to open Banfi's at the university in Ithaca. Bruce and I then flew to London were we met our friends Dick and Sara. We had a great time and also saw the must see places. Big Ben, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Trafalger Square,Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guards. We went up in the Eye of London at night, for a beautiful view of the city. London is a great city and it was easy to get around using their public transportation. One day and of course one of many, we decided we needed a beer. So we walked into this bar and I noticed everyone in there was a guy. It didn't cross my mind until the bartender brought it to our attention that it was a gay bar. We said it doesn't bother us, can we still get a beer? He said yes and we sat outside on the patio. LOL!!! After spending a week in London we flew to Ireland for a week. Dick wanted to find his roots. We rented a car and drove up to Derry where Dick did his research. We then drove the Giants Causeway to Belfast, across the country to Galway to see the Cliff's of Moher, Kylemore Abby, and then headed back to Dublin. Along the way we stopped at smaller towns to explore. We spent about three days in Dublin, in the Temple Bar area. I had visited Dublin in 2004 when Keith was in the Special Olympics. We got back to NY on Sept.7 th.

Bruce and I are now on the road again in our motorhome. Our first major destination was Albuquerque NM, where we went to the Balloon Fiesta. We met our friends there and she decided it would enhance the experience if we were part of a chase team, instead of just watching the balloons go up, so we signed on as crew. This meant getting up at the crack of dawn or before and hurrying up to wait. It was worth it because I got a ride in Sarah the Witch hot air balloon. I am afraid of heights but was not about to pass up this experience. It was so beautiful, peaceful and quiet. The view was awesome over the Rio Grande River!! Seeing tons of balloons below me all blown up and ready for flight was quite the sight, and then seeing balloons floating around us was pretty cool. Before the landing the pilot instructed us( another 14 yr old girl also came along)to keep our knees bent and to put my camera away, because it will not be a soft landing and that we would bounce along for a bit until someone on the chase crew could grab us. When we landed we both went hysterical laughing. The landing was easier then I had thought. We had a very experienced pilot who has been doing this for years. As part of the crew we were invited to the gatherings after the morning launch. These included lunch with margaritas, champagne, pina colladas and beer. We then had to be ready for the evening launch and helping to ready the balloons. It isn't easy and takes a lot of crew to get a balloon up.

Bruce and I are now in Utah visiting the national parks. We are staying as far north as we dare until the weather changes and then we'll head to Tucson for the winter. We really enjoyed the Rincon Country West Resort that we stayed at last winter so are going back for five months.

On Dec. 5th we are going on a two week cruise through the Panama Canal and ending in FT Lauderdale FL. We'll drive up to Palm Bay and spend Christmas with my parents.

There I did it!! Hopefully I won't neglect this blog anymore.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-90463758655931981182011-03-06T19:58:00.000-08:002011-03-06T20:45:01.077-08:00Caravan to Big Bend Texas<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9C20sWSJ9Dp6QpuyRTM7qJAOg29YXhAASoV_OHWc9aSr6AstZPrLgt0Ab2r631JTKvkfKr0bAUA5hcxS-IT-h6Ps29VDVRXUlPiUHVgP12ejrEBpSpGTxZUxOqodWWGvijDbMiawJtQ/s320/IMG_1448.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581194373727016098" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0I1KI04_qVtPR9kbiorFFgATIFnaXJQKsD3fVEVw3LIlr2xFppWk6kRZ2bWaL490ITraW-XiEAH9yZqcpsberS2t0MPg1S-TtWzjpI9ZLsb6HmoyhGqu7owfPo0VD0xIeA2LvRKXF8g/s320/IMG_1434.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581192776030006530" />
So Uncle Peter, Kaye, Bruce and I met up in Tucson AZ. We spent a week there and then headed to Big Bend Texas. We planned on leaving Rincon West Resort at 9 am. Bruce was concerned about how our new cruiser would tow, so of course he was awake at 5am thinking that over. At around 7:30 am he hooked up the tow bar and then discovered the cable that hooked the lights up from the motorhome to the car was too short by about 14 inches. Oh well, we'll take a chance that no one would run into the back of us or a trooper would notice no lights. By 8am we were parked in front of Uncle Peter's lot ready to go. LOL!! They were surprised to see us an hour early, needless to say. At 9am we headed out and first stop was fuel for both of our rigs. Bruce had been scouting out the best price for the past week or so. We knew just where to go. We pulled in and discovered they don't take charge cards. Just cash or debit. No biggie. Now when you fill a big rig it is pretty pricey, and the girl said that the machine would take up to four hundred dollars. We couldn't get it past one sixty so had to fuel up and feed the stupid machine some more money. In the mean time Uncle Peter was pulling up and some guy was coming from the opposite direction heading for the same pump. Uncle Peter was waving at him to stop and the guy kept coming. When Uncle Peter slammed on the breaks cabinets opened and dishes flew out. Guess he lost a plate, a mug and things flew. He was pissed!! This was the most fun we've ever had fueling up!!
We then headed for Campers World. It was on the way and Uncle Peter had some gift cards burning a hole in his pocket. He found some stuff he needed. While we were shopping around Campers World Bruce thought to use an older cable that was longer and change the attachment on the end so we would have lights and at 11 am we were headed out of Tucson. The day or so before Kaye had found a rest area we could stop at, the first night out on the way to Big Bend. So here we are resting up for tomorrows leg of the journey.
It's suppose to be in the low nineties in Big Bend. Yikes!!Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-31356136022854062412011-03-05T19:01:00.001-08:002011-03-05T19:13:58.232-08:00Patience“Patience is a virtue, Possess it if you can, Often found in woman, Never found in man”Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-32297636453298597692011-02-21T12:12:00.000-08:002011-02-21T12:38:31.383-08:00Rincon Country West RV Resort Quilt Show<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWxNz1muUDcaSZjmcxVI_S65hdrOCCQMjEu5i0boykaJjVf68LKky27F6xf52hAT29I_n8vkEevvcCVkg8Q6CU7sXVkGAG6Cwm8AWZ_oKs6J50INrR2hNpqP-109s2lmyAyhyEtDWjwA/s320/IMG_0800.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576244364154540018" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUcwOq_HnpkoCjKmtjvW_Y2yk2-2JV051pJGR-EmD9nAZh_P4c0tV1QqvxXcp4AHIFO2KGpvyq2Y-Dy7ckPC4XngRiiq647VCTQcZapaQXOwThegSqxRsA_ab2fOaSusMnf2p7MmNung/s320/IMG_0798.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576244096609984914" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz0Fjpd79CGnhpuzXOxBdo31dv8GjoRVd57z9uM62VcrYj4V1DYNWqqF0yclq3QmzfVhecXhOh60WmoiH0Bd2QaEYirfheJrwSR0TLEkb3DQXERjhv09OJkjdCbcTujNpcfCmYVWPkGg/s320/IMG_0797.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576243907553959682" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguwjiv3T5yAznDQKkNLVyrTY6qpyTJQX4shzurV7Ypg3fPSdPon0h0ZkKZ-Mn8XJNlXvrXT1AHV8vgTiNRkCJGRZ7s6Zlni6kQoJBoOrzfLlKN0ttcb8BxQe8E8B1GRuCv2TuPtwZf2Q/s320/IMG_0791.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576243622685330850" />
I can't keep up with these ladies!!! Their quilts are amazing and they actually get them done in a timing fashion. I like the smaller table toppers because I can get them done in two or three days. I must say though, that they are inspiring me to go bigger. In fact I have my fabric for a kaleidoscope quilt that I plan on making. There was a class on this that I couldn't go to because I was hiking. I went in and checked out what they were up to and then found the directions by Googling it. I have the best of two worlds.

The Cactus Quilters have three projects that they work on throughout the season. Comfort quilts for anyone sick in or out of RV Resort. They make blind baby quilts for the School for the Blind. Some of these quilts go to Phoenix and Flagstaff AZ. The third project is making dog beds for the Humane Society, here in Tucson.
I've helped with all but doggy beds. Well, that isn't true. I have donated scraps for them to use and this morning I found seat cushions I thought would be good for dog beds and gave one to them.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-16138026575532790172011-02-19T08:39:00.000-08:002011-02-19T10:25:36.058-08:00Tucson Gem and Mineral Show<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsG774kXeNzYLEcCcaEybXcl2tvvgokA5dIAl5QhBhhGFM9IiRi-x2kYTRm-AsfV1r32GTZG3CADaijUVufT-K0cWvlcU5uhCT3Exv2hZDM08TngKE4v2olK4HTjetG1zyA8jSLVtcaw/s320/P1040044.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575452943557532274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6uYURAj2lsyGFxzpVOCYAVNznHWxpWdF63WpNKuau7nu6d4SvU3CBs4bYzBchgqoG9K5Fn7ZSGjk1_y7rbktC0XsKFMmrT2E-xsdZuE5ny0P9RDY82Tx1qqke2iNGkekvNq1HZWUrOw/s320/P1040039.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575452938752753122" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNC_3JzAp-iIYhyphenhyphen4a4S83TgRZ-0vYQwkiICpFVYRrnMbNzjjefg-jrhOWS2gETFA0EUTb2EuFGLEdOjP358Pr6EuqvKRySkd5ceyCtxMvFt44lqvLK36cdhnWpk6oAM0Dj5qTE5zgr9Q/s320/P1040038.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575452934002397906" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNV-gcw7HlQTHQWUUpy45mj-k78rXVY40HD6h9_tizcjB7olvabjvB0EqbqffqGo14kEGHddjp5-6ZnOGCgUJulMULXdmmYmqVg1MFymZGn7GuJ-Cn07yBTAlQruKmBLtxC1SZXVWlYQ/s320/P1040037.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575452930978020610" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTvoMfwKwC9hyaloU1tJwLtHQdmHR_ftE-YUSspG1Ji9EfT1IbKwT3loTa8LogMMlSAKMZPB3BKpk03bjBVCsqxpGkVRw769R9gq-gKtjDfTPl49XMso-sBBt94KlhCXiga-y0cBhy3A/s320/P1040035.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575452927147750962" />
For two weeks, from Jan.29-Feb.13th the city of Tucson is a mecca for gem and mineral collectors, wholesalers, jewelery makers or anyone else wanting to buy, sell or just browse among a bazillion gems, minerals and huge boulders. Vendors came from all over the world. I wonder how much it cost to ship a boulder from Africa!! There are tents set up in parks and parking lots, hotel rooms are taken over, with beds removed or stacked in a corner, so the dealers can display their treasures. The final weekend was in the convention center for retail sales. That cost ten dollars to get in, so after browsing around for two weeks we passed on that. Needless to say we bought some gems and minerals. It really is addicting and just amazing what nature can produce.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-44442650935068689042011-01-28T14:51:00.000-08:002011-01-28T14:53:45.202-08:00Edward Wallis Hoch (1849-1925)There is so much good in the worst of us,
And so much bad in the best of us,
That it hardly behooves any of us
To talk about the rest of us.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-13192488464716780032011-01-10T20:45:00.000-08:002011-01-10T20:46:44.022-08:00Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-11327287844283747662010-12-14T18:23:00.000-08:002010-12-14T18:25:26.936-08:00St.Augustine"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page"Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-60931989561782106262010-12-10T19:56:00.000-08:002010-12-10T21:24:51.851-08:00Arizona The Grand Canyon State<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZDcEtdvYSDl6jR13Xw_t16s4UkqyLxjWZGefTUh3Z-7XCpR6YMVH-3-jA562IvvFPu2T7v8C3ArKAZZfKvJvQwXrDh5hPT8J9rtmJHDz0J4oFRQqSJkK5sZN41crgrccw4Eg663Qunw/s320/IMG_0374.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549291325075449794" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH36LNoNXf9M17riUI4JJo3l9vSEIg-lJZDmxCCnjRqPHBgp_AYZlku_ORNezuMVOBxweOpUKHtz__NWkojf6XCVh9QRwPXO3h8BFr8iwavTX1GILRhrzHr6SogiVPxPasMVtEMiS_dg/s320/IMG_0367.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549272059516200562" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZcT8_3E5fkE8Y2LFiimxfGssNiJcxJ2tt26Z-uGLIQlomeTEB7cKcyi-7NBW2tNhe8z7m7gCn3yQjODTBItted4sVZVTBPetKx-tsJPJmkLAY22AGeKhpae33MdnZiW8Y_GCVapTfEQ/s320/IMG_0366.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549271468856275442" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic887Oi_atDT3Ob7ex6KuUInap8pYFISsK7IBulIr4eRYvcvFltyjpoDPqWDv09vU7ErNkFQmlq_4DT_xxmN30-gje0bEfRM89Ji5SkLORNoyooGArIktLzWGxFH0dKBFijlBepAlacQ/s320/IMG_0370.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549270332524825218" />
On Dec.4th Bruce and I met his high school buddy and his wife in Maricopa AZ. I have never heard of cooking a turkey in a trash can but it was good. I think it could have cooked longer but it was nice. I just wonder where all the juices go that you need for the yummy gravy. I think this method is for campers who don't want to heat up their motorhomes with a turkey cooking all day.

Last year a fried turkey, this year a turkey in a trash can. It's located south of Amarillo TX. The canyon is 120 miles long, as wide as 20 miles and more then 800ft deep. The rim is 3500 ft above sea level. There are more then 30 miles of cycling, hiking and bridle paths. During the three days(11/18-20) we spent in the park, Bruce and I hiked all of them or just about. We also did some Geo-caching and found ten caches. Hopefully, our pictures will show how lovely this park is.

After three nice days in the park, we headed out. We needed to stop at the dump station. While Bruce took care of that I decided to sweep the car out and accidentally locked the keys in the car. We only have one set of keys, so had to call AAA to help us out. That took a good three hours because first time we called they thought we were at a different park and they didn't get our number right to call us back. To make matters worse we couldn't find Bruce's wallet. After searching high and low and asking if it was turned in, I remembered I had stuck it under the car seat so while we were hiking it was out of sight. Thank goodness I found it!!!

We are now in Roswell, NM. There are green martians all over the place!! Tomorrow should be interesting.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-21708667256001773132010-11-15T18:22:00.000-08:002010-11-15T19:30:59.655-08:00Still trying to catch up on this blog!!

As Bruce and I are meandering west we stopped in the town of Helen Georgia. Thirty years ago they decide the town needed to be revitalized to bring in tourists. The whole town was done to look like an alpine village. They have the longest Octoberfest in the country. It lasts two months. Bruce and I spent two days Oct. 30 and 31st eating brats, drinking beer and singing German beer songs. Yes we actually sang, because Bruce knew the important words from his army days in Germany. Defending our country by making sure no one else got any beer.

As we were wandering around the town we went into a lapidary shop. They make jewelry out of rocks. She told us about William Hollands School Of Lapidary Arts about six miles from our campground. Bruce decided we should check it out. They were on their last week of classes for the season. We decided to take some classes and were lucky they had some openings. Bruce took a class in silver casting and made a couple of rings and necklaces and I took a class in seed beading. I learned some stitches and made some necklaces, bracelets and a pair of earrings. They even had some campsites on the property, so we moved there to be closer.

After leaving Georgia we stopped in Alabama at the Unclaimed Luggage store. Bruce bought himself a camera and I bought two books.

Next stop was Memphis where we went to our favorite BBQ, The BBQ Shop. We had our usual and bought some to freeze. You never know when the craving for The BBQ Shop will strike.

We decided since the weather was still reasonable we would head a little north and go to Branson MO. There we saw three shows. The Oak Ridge Boys-excellent, a group called SIX also very excellent. This group of six brothers, who by the way all own a brand new camaro with SIX across the side, sing a cappella. Our busy summer included one funeral, very sad, three weddings, a new roof and many visits with friends and family. I especially enjoyed my time with our granddaughters, daughter,son and Jack (a dog).

Our first trip was a cruise to Iceland. We flew to London, rented a car and drove to Southhampton England. On the way we stopped at Winchester. We couldn't get into the cathedral because the BBC Antiques Road Show was there.

We arrived in Southhampton and spent one night at White Star Inn. It had been owned by the same company that owned the Titanic and other ships.

Our cruise was nice but we had the crankiest bunch Ive ever seen on a cruise ship. There were three altercations between all the senior passengers. Two of them were phyical fights where a guy ended up on the floor. The other a women hit a guy with her purse and he punched her in the face. Yikes!!! Have to watch out for those old people.

I am so far behind on my blog that I am just going to post the pictures I've taken. I especially enjoyed Iceland. It is so amazing because of it's geographical features. THe temperature there was 55 degrees and sunny. It only felt cold when the wind blew.

Bruce and I are in Memphis TN and heading up to Branson MO for three days. We descovered they have a week long Veteran's Day celebration. Hopefully we can get to see a show and the parade on Thursday.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-313078932108983829.post-12916112061107605252010-05-31T11:21:00.000-07:002010-05-31T11:22:21.370-07:00Happy 30Th Birthday Keith!!WELCOME TO HOLLAND!
by Emily Pearl Kingsley

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel.

It's like this . . . When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guidebooks and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum, the Michelangelo David, the gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting. After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes and says, "Welcome to Holland." "Holland?" you say. "What do you mean Holland? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy." But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place. So you go out and buy new guidebooks. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met. It's just a different place. It's slower paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around, and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills, Holland has tulips, Holland even has Rembrandts. But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy, and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say, "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned." The pain of that will never go away, because the loss of that dream is a very significant loss. But if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you will never be free to enjoy the very special, very lovely things about Holland.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831424042044765843noreply@blogger.com2
